Course Description
The CBI and the Life skills classes have been combined to create one two-hour block class. This course is designed to improve the student’s pre-vocational skills. The class will consist of two training sites, one per semester, roughly ten weeks long. Each student will be placed on a job training site with staff making visitation to the sites. Students will be in the classroom on Mondays for instruction while at both placements. Students will keep track of their hours on a time sheet and write thank-you notes to business where they did their job training experience. Students will be evaluated twice at each training site. The class will also be going to the West Michigan Food Bank twice during each placement. In the Life Skills proportion of the class students will learn basic independent living skills which can be used at home and in the community. It will involve “hands-on learning” as much as possible. The class will be project oriented. Students will work together on some projects which will give them the opportunity to practice social skills important in the work environment.
